A master class is like a short private music lesson, but with a small audience present. It combines the intimacy of the teacher-student relationship, in which a student plays for a master teacher who is an expert on their instrument, with the public forum of a typical performance. While the student musician picks up pointers regarding technique or artistic expression, the audience also learns a great deal by witnessing the fascinating dynamic between teacher and student.
Past master class artists included Austin Huntington, Principal Cellist of the Indianapolis Symphony; as well as two chamber music master classes with the Euclid Quartet, Ensemble in Residence at IUSB.
All SBYSO master classes are free and open to the public. Current SBYSO students who wish to sign up for one of our solo master classes should visit PROGRAMS and click on appropriate sign up form to register.
