Caroline Coade
Master Cass Artist - Viola
Violist Caroline Coade enjoys a diversified career in the world of music. Ms. Coade is 3rd chair violist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. From 2013-2016, she served as the assistant principal violist. Concurrently, Caroline is an assistant professor of viola at the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance. As part of her advocacy of the next generation of violists, Ms. Coade was a member of the judging panel of the prestigious Primrose International Viola Competition in both June 2014 and June 2018.
Since 2017, Ms. Coade has been the Artistic Director for WRCJ 90.9FM’s Classical Brunch chamber music series at the Community House in Birmingham, MI. In July 2020, Ms. Coade was awarded the Crystal Microphone Award by WRCJ 90.9FM radio for outstanding contributions to and advocacy of the Classical music scene in Metro Detroit.
Ms. Coade received her Bachelor of Music from the Oberlin Conservatory, has an Artist Diploma from The Curtis Institute of Music, and a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School. She plays on a Domenico Busan viola c. 1750 on loan from the private collection of Sarah and Peter Mandell of Southern California.
