Symphony Orchestra (Sunday)

The Symphony Orchestra is the premiere orchestral experience for young musicians across the Michiana region. The orchestra performs major professional-level standard and contemporary repertoire, and introduces college conservatory and music school bound students to the level that would be expected of them beyond high school. The ensemble is also open to students who simply love having an exciting symphonic experience. Our 2015-2016 season will feature the challenging film music from Star Wars, composed by John Williams, Antonin Dvorak’s New World Symphony, Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2, as well as thrilling modern works. Members receive weekly sectional coachings from some of the best professional musicians around Michiana, focusing on rock-solid intonation, comprehensive musicianship, advanced technique and professionalism. Past seasons have featured guest soloists, pianist Natasha Stojanovska performing Gershiwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, violinist Rachel Patrick performing Pulitzer Prize winning composer Kevin Puts’ Violin Concerto, and internationally acclaimed quartet, Third Coast Percussion – Ensemble in Residence at the University of Notre Dame – performing rising star American composer, David T. Little’s Radiant Child. Conducted by Music Director, Robert Boardman who won Second Place nationally for The American Prize, Vytautas Marijosius Memorial Award in Orchestral Programming, 2014. Boardman received the Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, frequently ranked #1 in conducting by U.S. News & World Report.
